Elke Marcus, a valued and long-standing employee, retired after an impressive 33 years at G&D. Her journey with us began five years after the company was founded in 1985, when G&D’s focus was still on developing products for software training. Over three decades, she experienced and contributed to the growth of the company in her field of work.
When she joined G&D in November 1990, the company employed just 20 people and had expanded its premises in what is now the “Lyz” cultural center in Siegen. “I started in warehouse logistics,” Elke remembers. She prepared the material for the soldering system and assembly. “The components were still plugged in back then,” she says, as there was no automated production at the time.
In addition to the technological development over the years, Elke Marcus has also witnessed the company’s expansion and growth. In 1993, the company first moved to the Wilnsdorf industrial area (community near Siegen), and then in 2017 to a new building in the upper “Leimbachtal” in Siegen, which now accommodates almost five times the number of employees compared to the early days. “It speaks for itself that the company has always managed to keep pace in terms of development. I think we’ve kept up with the latest developments over the years, and that’s what makes G&D special. And I’m convinced that this will continue – that’s what I hope and wish for,” summarizes Elke.
Her career at G&D also involved changes and took her from warehouse logistics to assembly, where she worked until the end of November. She particularly enjoyed her work when it was a bit trickier technically, Elke describes. During her years at G&D, she has not only acquired a great deal of technical know-how, but has also become a highly respected employee of the company. Thanks to her many years of experience, she became an expert in evaluating initial samples of the devices.
A new chapter began at the end of November 2023: retirement. Elke is looking to slow down and spend a lot of time in nature. She may travel in the future or take up her former hobby of painting again. Something lasting from her will continue to accompany us – not only the fruits of her labor, but one of the paintings that she created many years ago is still hanging in an office space and will continue to remind us of a dear colleague.
Elke Marcus describes her time at G&D as one of participation and creation. She particularly enjoyed working in the technical area and will miss her work in assembly, she says. She values the memories of the joint celebrations and the friendly atmosphere at G&D.
Elke Marcus has had an eventful and fulfilling time at G&D. We wish her all the best for her well-deserved retirement and express our sincere appreciation for her many years of loyalty and commitment.
