Life after University – a very exciting and at the same time very difficult period of time!

What are you going to do after University? That´s indeed an often asked question for many students! Most of them do not really know what they will do in future – and I am one of them. To evaluate which job in which branch might be interesting for me I started to search for an internship opportunity.

Since Guntermann & Drunck was willing to offer such an opportunity to me, I joined their Sales & Marketing team for a few weeks. Was the internship at G&D helpful for me? Could I figure out what I want to do in my future working life? Did I enjoy working at G&D? Read the short story about my internship and see for yourself if it was a good experience!

How is the real (working) life?

I am Quy Do, I am 23 years old and I am going to finish my studies in business administration soon. Therefore I am looking for real life experience besides all the theory from University. I really enjoy my studies, but I do not know what I am going to do in my future working life.

People often say that you can do a lot of things once you have a degree from University. A lot of potential opportunities, a lot of interesting jobs – but is this really true? To me it seems to be tough to figure out what the most appropriate job for me might be.

The best way to figure out what is the right thing is to see how it is in the real life – that’s why I completed an internship within the Sales & Marketing Department at G&D.

First Step: my experience within the Sales Department

I started my internship in the Sales Department and worked a few weeks with the Sales Support team. In the beginning I was a little nervous, but my colleagues were really kind and very helpful and they directly took away my nervousness.

After two weeks I started to work within the International Sales Department were I needed my English skills. The next stop for me was within National Sales where I had to learn a lot about G&D’s KVM devices. Due to the complexity of these products this was indeed a real challenge! It was impressive to see what you can do with all the different KVM products and how you can combine them!

Next Step: Online Marketing

Another department where I used to work was the Online Marketing. First task for me was to evaluate what Social Networks are and what advantages they provide. Before working within Online Marketing I did not pay much attention to these networks but I learned a lot about their importance, even for companies active within B2B markets.

Last step: Marketing

I completed the last week of my internship in the Marketing Department. I could join a product training together with a G&D partner what was really interesting. Finally I spent the last days at G&D within the PR department what was also an interesting experience.

Summary

During my time at G&D it was surprising to me how many impressions and experiences I could get in all the different departments. That’s why I can say that the internship was very beneficial for me!

I could work on many interesting tasks what I really enjoyed and I could also experience that there are a lot of things that you can not learn just through studying theory at University. You have to get real life experience.

By the way: now it is clear to me that I want to work within Sales or Marketing after finishing my studies!

Thanks to G&D and their team for a magnificent internship!
