Our KVM extenders offer a wide range of configuration options and functions. Therefore, it\u2019s sometimes easy to miss a feature that could facilitate your work tremendously. But don\u2019t worry. From time to time, we will use this blog to highlight some of these features. Today, we will focus on Exclusive Mode, which comes in handy when used in courtroom applications, for example. But first let’s start with some basics.<\/p>\n

KVM Extenders Basics<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A major advantage of KVM extenders from G&D<\/a> is that you are able to operate computers remotely as well as locally. By utilizing our extenders, it does not matter where you are, if your computers are tethered to one of our extenders, you can operate your computers and access the same information. This allows for more flexibility in your work environments.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Exclusive Mode?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One of the interesting features our KVM extenders offer is known as Exclusive Mode. With this feature, users can connect multiple monitors to the same computer and switch one monitor off while working on another. This is vital when working to keep classified information hidden from unwanted viewers. Exclusive Mode lets you keep working on your documents while protecting the private nature of them.<\/p>\n

The feature is perfect for organizations needing to work with sensitive and private information that they would not want unauthorized viewers seeing or making edits to. It enhances security to any worker who uses multiple computers to work on the same documents in separate rooms.<\/p>\n

How to Configure Exclusive Mode<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There are two ways to activate and configure Exclusive Mode. You can use either the on-screen display (OSD) or the Config Panel 21<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Activating Exclusive Mode via OSD:<\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. Press Ctrl + Num<\/strong> to open the on-screen display.<\/li>\n
  2. Select the row Console setup<\/strong> and press Enter<\/strong> if you want to adjust the right for the remote console (on the CON module).<\/ br>
    \nSelect the row Local console setup<\/strong> and press Enter<\/strong> if you want to adjust the right for the local console (on the CPU module).<\/li>\n
  3. Under Enable exclusive<\/strong>, press F8<\/strong> to select one of the following options:<\/ br>
    \nYes: <\/strong>permission for exclusive operation is granted<\/ br>
    \nNo: <\/strong>permission for exclusive operation is denied<\/li>\n
  4. Press F2<\/strong> to save your settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Activating Exclusive Mode via Config Panel 21:<\/h4>\n
      \n
    1. In the menu, click on KVM extender<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    2. Click on the KVM extender you want to configure and then click on Configuration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    3. Click on the tab General<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    4. Click on the tab CPU <\/strong>if you want to configure access to the local console (on the CPU module).<\/li>\n
    5. Click on the tab CON <\/strong>if you want to configure access to the remote console (on the CON module).<\/li>\n
    6. In the field Permanent access mode<\/strong>, select one of the following options:<\/ br>
      \nEnabled:<\/strong> Right for exclusive operation is granted<\/ br>
      \nDisabled:<\/strong> Right for exclusive operation is denied<\/li>\n
    7. Click on Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Example: Exclusive Mode in a Courtroom Application<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Applying exclusive mode is especially useful in courtroom scenarios. Let\u2019s say a judge is working on a document in their chambers and wants to bring that same document up on their computer in the courtroom. Exclusive mode allows that judge to shut the screen off in their chambers so that no one else can see that potentially sensitive information.<\/p>\n

      G&D have already been working with several courtrooms that have found this particular feature to be of great help for the protection of legal information. With such sensitive documents, it is of utmost importance to keep that information safe and secure behind privacy measures that are found in G&D Extenders.<\/p>\n
