Today, we will show you how many CAT cables you will need to connect the user module and the computer module of the extender system.<\/p>\n<h2>Required number of CAT cables depends on MC variant<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gdsys.de\/en\/files\/2013\/06\/schema_extender.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1376\" alt=\"KVM extender\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.gdsys.de\/en\/files\/2013\/06\/schema_extender-300x300.jpg\" width=\"229\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.gdsys.de\/en\/files\/2013\/06\/schema_extender.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.gdsys.de\/en\/files\/2013\/06\/schema_extender-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/><\/a>Connecting DVIVision-MC4-ARU2-CON and DVIVision-MC4-ARU2-CPU requires five CAT lines. Four lines transmit the KVM signals whereas the fifth line forwards USB 2.0 data.<\/p>\n<p>A USB 2.0 port always requires an individual CAT line due to the high bandwidth of the data. Actually, the bandwidth is so high the remaining four CAT lines are not able to carry the additional data without any interruptions.<\/p>\n<p>When applying extender systems supporting USB 1.1, the CAT lines transmit USB and KVM signals on one line. Here, the number of CAT lines varies depending on the KVM extender system in use. However, you won&#8217;t always need four CAT cables (plus one line for USB 2.0) to connect the user module with the computer module. In general, you will need one CAT cable for every video channel you want to connect.<\/p>\n<h3>Here&#8217;s an example:<\/h3>\n<p>Connecting DVIVision-MC2-U-CPU and DVIVision-MC2-U-CON requires two CAT lines. Since the KVM system in this example supports USB 1.1, you will need only two cables to connect the modules.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, there isn&#8217;t a general rule for the number of CAT cables required to connect user and computer modules.
